Savanna Edwards has been visiting Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando three to four times a year to treat her arthritis and amplified pain disorder. Her hometown 200 miles away lacks the specialized services she requires, which include help from a psychologist to manage the pain. Edwards, 16, has been able to get that support twice a month courtesy of Nemours’ telehealth service. “It took a little doing” to get their insurer to cover the visits, says her mother, Leslie, but the treatment has “done wonders” for Savanna, who participates in dance and leads an active life. She still travels to the pain clinic twice a year.
