Emergency Department Tele-Triage Considerations

August 6, 2025

Join NETRC staffers and colleagues from eVisit to discuss this vital clincal care avenue and workflow considerations! It's been 5 years since the start of the pandemic. In that time, health systems have spent a fortune promoting and educating patients why urgent care is a better fit than the ER for lower-acuity cases. There's been an increase in digital care, providing another alternative vs. driving to the ER. There are care at home offerings and increased monitoring through RPM devices too.

In 2024, 20% of ED encounters among adults 65 and older exceeded the 8 hour limit. CMS implemented an age-friendly hospital measure early this year. Hospitals are now required to have initiatives to improve ED length of stay and admit patients within three hours of the decision to admit. How are health systems limiting older adult's Emergency Department stays? Have we seen improvements in key ED metrics like left without being seen, left before treatment complete, workload balance, patient wait time, and "door to order" time? What do these numbers look like? And, anecdotally, how have things changed at the locations in your health system?
